Two of the main factors when choosing a ceiling tile are NRC (Noise Reduction Coefficent) and CAC (Ceiling Attenuation Class)
NRC is a measure for rating the overall sound absorption of a material installed inside a building where sound is reflected at many angles of incidence. An NRC rating of .5 indicates that half of the sound is reflected while the other half is absorbed.
CAC is a measure for rating the performance of a ceiling system as a barrier to airborne sound transmission through a common plenum between adjacent closed spaces, such as private offices, and open spaces used for collaboration and focus areas. The higher the CAC the better the performance of the tile.
